The Process

Throwing + Shaping
Mold raw clay into your desired design using wheel throwing and sculpting techniques. Using water, tools, your hands, and pressure to get your desired form.

Trimming + Drying
Once it is shaped, we dry it to be leather hard and then trim the bottom. After that, it dries completely to bone dry (this is called greenware).

Bisque Firing
The piece is bisque fired at ~1000°C so that the clay body (now vitrified) can accept glaze. Glaze is abstractly liquid glass that melts onto stone. This firing takes 20 to 36 hours to heat up, fire at peak temp, and cool down.

Glazing + Glaze Firing
Once the pieces are bisque fired, they are glazed. Glaze results vary as it is a chemical reaction (not like painting). This takes 20 to 36 hours to heat up, fire at peak temp, and cool down.

Ceramics Intensive
Weekend intensive 2 days, 4 hours each CHF 280
Learn how to throw on the potters wheel. Plus, sculpting and decorative effects. You may also trim some pieces if they are leather hard. Otherwise, trimming, glazing, and delivery are included.
This includes 5-10 finished pieces + materials. CHF 25/kg for additional finished pieces.
Come with up to 5 of your friends, alone, your partner or even give a gift card!

1 session for 3 hours CHF 120
Learn how to throw on the potters wheel, pick a glaze, and Sydney magically does the rest.
This includes 1 finished piece + materials. CHF 25/kg for additional finished pieces.

Select a Saturday or Sunday
For this class, there must be 1 week between course 3 & 4 so we can bisque fire before glazing.

We will use wheels, various tools, clay, electricity for firing, glaze, time, muscle, and other things to create your pieces. This is included.
All scraps of clay or pots that you do not want finished are recycled. All glazes are handmade in the studio and results will vary.

Payments are made in person. For the entree and dessert, the whole “meal” is to be paid upfront or in 2 payments.
Cash payments (only in full) get a 10% discount and Twint + Card (less preffered) are accepted.

For 2026, all classes are held in Mannendorf at Barzkeramik near Lake Zurich. In 2027, some Zurich city classes will be offered... this place has cooler glazes and better vibes for now.

The links go to polls. I offer mainly Saturdays and Sundays. Other weekdays can be offered in the evening. At least 2 attendees must select a date for it to be valid. Maximum 6 students due to wheel capacity. If you need to reschedule, just contact Sydney. Giftcards are offered for gift giving!
For the Entree + Dessert, there must be 1 week between Course 3 & 4 so we can bisque fire your piece before glazing.

If you want to fire/finish more pieces than what it included in the package, we charge by weight. 1 kg of finished pots is CHF 25. This is due to additional costs of clay, glaze, kiln space, etc.
