Transforming the Treehaus dining room.
The Problem
In the Before image, the room is dominated by a wash of beige, where no design element stands out or distinguishes itself. The overwhelming presence of the same beige tone diminishes the impact of even the darker brown accents, resulting in a flat and overly bright beige corner.
Just as well, the table and chair set in the room is dated, which could be fine, but it does not stylistically coordinate with the abstract and sculptural decor elements or the paper lighting fixtures. Overall, it feels as though each element in the space is working against each other rather than working together.
As a general decorating rule, any centerpiece decoration for a dining area should have a lower profile to avoid obstructing conversations. Additionally, dining centerpieces need to be thematically considered: it is usually more inviting and appealing to decorate the table with flowers, seasonal decorations, or produce rather than having a sculptural body lying between everyone who is eating, which can feel uncomfortable and distracting.
Our Solution
A fresh coat of paint can make all the difference in transforming a space. In our case, we decided to create an accent wall with a deep blue color that beautifully captures the natural light from the window. This choice not only enhances the room's brightness but also serves as an excellent point of contrast for all the furnishings. The play of contrast immediately breathes new life into the area. Previously, the dark brown curtains appeared rather flat and unremarkable, but now they exude a rich, chocolatey tone that adds depth and character to the entire space.
To ensure a dynamic and cohesive atmosphere, we carefully incorporated mixed textures and colors throughout the room. Each facet of the design has the ability to distinguish itself, yet the overall picture remains harmonious and visually appealing.
Another aspect we addressed was the table centerpiece. We opted for a more appropriate and functional choice that doesn't overpower the room with its height or concept. By selecting a centerpiece that strikes the perfect balance, we ensure it complements the space without detracting from conversations or obstructing views. This thoughtful adjustment allows for a more seamless and enjoyable experience in the room.
Lastly, we decided to swap out the paper pendant light with a sleek metal fixture. This upgrade not only elevates the overall ambiance but also adds a layer of sophistication to the space.
Through the strategic use of color, contrast, texture, greenery, functional design elements, and lighting, we have successfully transformed the space from one big beige corner to an inviting dining area and true extension of the open living space.
